The Eastern Pacific Grey Whales do a yearly migration down the coast from Alaska to Mexico to give birth to their young in the warm waters and then swim all the way back up. This happens December -April along the coast. Right now the whales are all traveling south still and its really easy to spot them of the coast of San Diego as they travel. Gray whales have distinct heart shaped blow and beautiful tails that they showcase when they go down for dives. Below are two photo sets of a grey whale going for a dive, on from behind and another from the side. You'll be able to see the rolling of the back, the lifting the tail out of the water, the water running off of it, and the sharp angle into the water for the deep dive.

Every whale tail or fluke is different form another just like a humans finger prints, they are individual to each person, so every time you watch a whale fluke its a whole new experience.
